Uptown Emporium is nominated for Economic Development Project of the Year


The Uptown Emporium is one of seven Manitoba companies nominated for a provincial economic development award.

Flin Flon’s latest arts and crafts seller has been nominated for the Economic Developers Association of Manitoba (EDAM) Economic Development Project of the Year award, the only northern Manitoba entity to be nominated . Other companies from Carman, Grandview, Reston, Richer and St-Adolphe were also nominated.

“We’ve been nominated, it’s exciting! Said Crystal Kolt, cultural coordinator of the Flin Flon Arts Council. The Arts Council has played a key role in the creation and operation of the Uptown Emporium since its inception last year.

“The goal of the Uptown Emporium is absolutely economic development and strengthening of our tourism and cultural sectors. We are truly honored to have been nominated for this. I hope this highlights what is possible in the north and through the north through this type of project.

The Uptown Emporium sells products from local artisans and artists, offering both an online store and a physical storefront on Main Street for sales opportunities.

“We know there is so much talent in the North, whether it’s the artisans that the Emporium strives to support and develop, or all the other pieces of the puzzle that it can hopefully play. a supporting role, ”Kolt said.

The Uptown Emporium location on Main Street officially opened in April, including items ranging from small wooden birds and jewelry to handmade violins.
