In May, NPQ hosted a webinar focused on how to rebuild Puerto Rico’s economy in a way that would meet the needs of the community. In light of the recent citizen mobilization that toppled the governor of the island last month, we believe the messages delivered in this webinar by leading Puerto Rican activists are more important than ever.
The webinar includes an interview with NPQ editor-in-chief Cyndi Suarez of Dr Nelson Colón of the Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Community Foundation), who talks about the potential for equity and an energy revolution on the island.
Following the interview, NPQ Editor-in-Chief Steve Dubb moderates a panel featuring the stories of three leading Puerto Rican expert-practitioners who, through economic policy research and advocacy, community energy activism, and community land ownership , contribute to the birth of new forms of equitable, democratic and communal community. based economic development.
In the months and years to come, the work of Puerto Ricans to build a more just economic system will require many changes, including the regularization of housing and land tenure, changes in government economic policy, the promotion of partnerships that create community wealth and promote community ownership and development of sustainable community energy production.
